Bhopal has achieved a remarkable milestone in exports, recording more than 118% growth over the last four years. Driven by rising international demand for agricultural, food, and engineering products, the district is rapidly establishing itself as one of Madhya Pradesh’s leading export centers. According to district administration data, Bhopal’s export turnover has more than doubled between FY 2021-22 and FY 2025-26.
Collector Shri Priyank Mishra stated that an analysis conducted under the District Export Action Plan (DEAP) revealed that Bhopal’s total exports increased from ₹1,062.89 crore in FY 2021-22 to ₹2,323.58 crore in FY 2025-26. The significant growth reflects the district’s expanding industrial capabilities, product quality, and growing acceptance in international markets. He credited the achievement to the coordinated efforts of the district administration, exporters, industry stakeholders, and supporting institutions.
Agricultural and food exports from Bhopal have witnessed exceptional growth during the period. Export value in this segment rose from around ₹138 crore in FY 2021-22 to more than ₹820 crore in FY 2025-26. Fresh bananas, basmati rice, soybean meal, and grapes from the district have established a strong presence in global markets. Improved production quality, better supply chain management, and growing international demand have played a key role in this expansion.
Alongside agriculture, Bhopal’s engineering and manufacturing sector has become a major contributor to export growth. Products such as power transformers, turbines, generator components, electrical equipment, and bearing housings are witnessing sustained demand across international markets. Industry experts believe that the rapid growth in engineering exports has strengthened Bhopal’s position among India’s important manufacturing and export destinations.
Products manufactured in Bhopal are now being exported to several countries, including Iraq, France, Germany, Kenya, Bangladesh, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Uzbekistan, and Egypt. The growing diversity of export destinations is enhancing the district’s economic resilience and strengthening its competitiveness in global trade.
Focus on Making Bhopal a Leading Export Hub:
Collector Shri Mishra emphasized that the district administration, MSME Department, MPIDC, and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) are working together to help local industries meet global standards and access new international markets. The objective is to strengthen local enterprises, expand export opportunities, and position Bhopal as a model export hub for the country.
Quality and Competitiveness Drive Success:
The record growth in exports highlights the ability of Bhopal’s industries to compete beyond domestic markets. The success of the agriculture and engineering sectors demonstrates the district’s growing global footprint and its potential to contribute significantly to economic growth in the coming years.
