Advice for Farmers
- Sell in high-price markets: Magalganj (UP), the modal price of tomatoes is ₹2,850 per quintal. Maharashtra markets like Bhusawal, Kalmeshwar, and Kamthi also offer ₹2,320–2,500 per quintal. Farmers with transport facilities can send tomatoes to these markets for better returns.
- Use storage options in low-price markets: Rahata (Maharashtra), the modal price is ₹1,000 per quintal, and in Khed (Chakan), it is ₹1,500 per quintal. Farmers in these markets should consider cold storage or local distribution until prices rise.
- Keep an eye on costs: Before selling in distant markets, calculate transport and labor expenses. If costs are high, selling to nearby markets or local wholesale buyers may be safer.
- Focus on quality and variety: Local and other varieties of tomatoes are fetching good prices in Maharashtra and UP. Farmers should pay attention to packing and grading in the future to achieve higher market prices.
- Monitor market rates daily: Tomato prices are changing rapidly. Farmers should check daily updates and sell at the right time to maximize profit.
