Tomatoes have once again become the talk of the nation among both farmers and consumers. With the onset of winter, tomato prices have surged sharply, surprising many. In several major mandis (wholesale markets) of Uttar Pradesh, prices have shot up with high-quality tomatoes selling for as much as ₹6,000 per quintal.
According to market experts, the rise in prices is mainly due to reduced arrivals caused by the cold weather affecting crop freshness. As supply drops and demand remains strong, both buyers and traders are pushing up prices. For farmers, this is a golden opportunity to earn better returns for their fresh produce.
