Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, interacted with farmers in Telangana today as part of the ongoing Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, which has now entered its 12th day.

During his visit, Shri Chouhan held direct discussions with farmers in Mansonpally village of Ranga Reddy district, followed by participation in a Kisan Chaupal in Ramachandraguda village. Farmers informed the Minister that diversification and integrated farming models have significantly improved both their production and income. The day's events concluded with a farmers' convention held in Mangalpally, Ibrahimpatnam.

Government’s Top Priority: Farmers’ Welfare:

Addressing the gathering, Shri Chouhan emphasized, “Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy, and farmers are its soul.” He affirmed his full commitment to the responsibilities entrusted to him by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and extended congratulations on the completion of the first year of PM Modi’s third term. Shri Chouhan reiterated that the prosperity of farmers is the foundation of a developed India. The agriculture sector continues to provide livelihood to nearly half of the country’s population and contributes 18% to the national GDP.

Key Objectives of the Campaign and Role of Scientists

The Minister outlined four main goals of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan:

  1. Ensuring national food security
  2. Securing fair prices for farmers’ produce
  3. Providing nutritious food to India’s 1.45 billion people
  4. Preserving soil fertility and promoting sustainable agriculture

Shri Chouhan informed that 2,170 teams comprising 16,000 agricultural scientists are currently visiting villages across the country. These teams aim to bridge the gap between lab and land by sharing locally relevant agricultural innovations based on soil health, climate, and crop suitability.

Millets (Shri Anna) to Gain Global Identity: The Minister highlighted the government's goal of promoting Shri Anna (millets) at a global level. He expressed confidence that the Indian Institute of Millets Research, based in Telangana, would lead this mission. He also directed scientists to accelerate research to promote palm oil cultivation in the state.

He praised innovative practices adopted by farmers in Ranga Reddy district, such as intercropping, tomato and flower cultivation, and nursery development. Referring to a farmer who earns ₹3 lakh per acre, Shri Chouhan stated, “We are fully committed to eliminating every obstacle in the path of farmers' prosperity.”

Government to Bear Transport Costs for Tomato, Potato, and Onion Crops: Shri Chouhan announced that the central government has implemented the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to support tomato, potato, and onion producers. Under this scheme, the government will bear inter-state transport costs and provide improved storage infrastructure for these crops.

Special Focus on Small and Marginal Farmers: The Minister stressed that the government is paying special attention to ensuring that small and marginal farmers also benefit. Integrated farming models are being promoted to enhance productivity and increase farmers’ incomes.
