The Madhya Pradesh government is taking significant steps towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the renewable energy sector. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that the Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana has the potential to attract over ₹20,000 crore in investments, bringing revolutionary changes in the energy landscape of the state. He made this announcement during the summit held at Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre in Bhopal on Tuesday.
This initiative is an extension of the central government’s Pradhan Mantri KUSUM scheme. It focuses on integrating grid-connected agricultural pumps with solar energy systems by establishing solar power plants at feeder level. Currently, Madhya Pradesh has around 8,000 dedicated agricultural feeders and approximately 35 lakh operational agricultural pumps.
Key Objectives of the Scheme:
CM Dr. Yadav highlighted that over 350 investors from across the country and the state participated in the summit. The scheme is also designed to include small-scale investors, offering wider investment opportunities to the general public. It aims to provide farmers with low-cost electricity while making them self-reliant.
Solar Pumps to Transform Farmers’ Lives: The Chief Minister further informed that 32 lakh solar pump connections would be installed across the state over the next three years. This move will significantly reduce coal dependency and bring positive changes to the lifestyle of farmers. Currently, renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of over 9,300 MW are operational in Madhya Pradesh.
Boost to Local Investment and Employment: Renewable Energy Minister Shri Rakesh Shukla stated that the scheme promotes the Vocal for Local mission by encouraging local entrepreneurs to invest and generate employment. He also shared that 100% capacity-based projects will be implemented at 1,900 substations across the state.
A Major Step towards Affordable Energy and Environmental Protection:
Energy Minister Shri Pradyumna Singh Tomar announced that the government will also purchase surplus power generated by farmers. This additional power can support essential village services such as schools and hospitals. The increased use of renewable energy will also reduce pollution, ensuring a cleaner environment for future generations.
Floating Energy Parks and Rooftop Solar Expansion: The CM highlighted the establishment of a unique floating energy park in Maheshwar, along with major solar plants operating in Neemuch and Rewa. By 2025, all government buildings in the state will be equipped with rooftop solar systems. In Mohasa Babai, 22 renewable energy equipment manufacturing units are being set up, expected to create 24,000 jobs.
1,725 MW Solar Energy Target under PM-KUSUM-C: Additional Chief Secretaries Shri Manu Shrivastava and Shri Neeraj Mandloi shared that under the PM KUSUM-C component, Madhya Pradesh has been assigned a target to produce 1,725 MW of solar energy, equivalent to 3.5 lakh units. All relevant departments are working in coordination to achieve this goal.
₹20 Crore Investments per Solar Project in Each District": Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam, Shri Amanbir Singh Bains, informed that each unit under the Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana will have an average capacity of 5 MW, requiring an investment of around ₹20 crore. Local entrepreneurs, developers, investors, and farmers can form partnerships at selected substations in each district. This investment will generate sustainable income and business opportunities for up to 25 years while ensuring affordable power supply.
