The state government is accelerating efforts to double farmers' income by encouraging a shift from traditional farming to advanced agricultural practices. The vision includes the adoption of modern techniques, crop diversification, and allied activities such as animal husbandry, dairy farming, and fisheries. All concerned departments have been instructed to work in coordination and ensure that farmers receive timely support right at their farms.

Decline in Paddy, Surge in Soybean and Pigeon Pea Cultivation:

This year has seen a slight decline in paddy cultivation, while farmers are increasingly turning to soybean and pigeon pea (arhar) crops. The Agriculture Production Commissioner has emphasized the use of high-yielding and biofortified seed varieties. New wheat varieties like HI 1650, 1636, 1633, and 1655 are rich in iron and zinc, making them healthier options. Similarly, the ‘Pusa Arhar-16’ variety offers higher yield and better quality.

Promoting Irrigation through Pressurized Pipelines and Modern Equipment:

To improve irrigation efficiency and crop productivity, the government is offering subsidies for installing pipelines in farmlands. Soil testing laboratories are active across all districts, and farmers are being encouraged to get their soil tested for better input planning. The process of providing modern agricultural machinery through Custom Hiring Centres has also been expedited.

Shift from DAP to NPK Fertilizers:

Farmers are being advised to switch from DAP to NPK fertilizers, which contain a balanced mix of essential nutrients. To ensure smooth and organized fertilizer distribution, 'double-lock' centers are being upgraded, offering better facilities and minimizing queues.

Curbing Stubble Burning with Happy Seeder Technology:

Farmers are being made aware of the harmful effects of stubble burning on soil health and the environment. Instead, they are encouraged to use techniques like Happy Seeder and Super Seeder for sowing, which help preserve soil nutrients and improve yield. Farmers who adopt these technologies will be promoted as role models to inspire others.

Digital Market Access through E-Mandi and Farmgate App:

The state government has launched the e-Mandi and Farmgate App to help farmers sell their produce digitally without middlemen. This initiative aims to save time at market yards and ensure better prices for farmers. Efforts are also underway to modernize and digitize agricultural markets for enhanced efficiency.
