November 2025, wholesale potato prices in key agricultural markets (APMCs) across North India fell sharply compared to last year. Higher supply, lower market demand, and full storage facilities led to a significant decline, with prices dropping by ₹600 to ₹1,000 per quintal. This steep fall has directly affected farmers’ income.
According to market traders, potato prices are likely to fall further as the arrival of the local crop increases. Competition rises when fresh produce enters the market, which naturally pulls down the prices of potatoes transported from other states. Typically, from the second week of December, the arrival of local potatoes leads to a 10–15% drop in wholesale prices.
Lucknow APMC, wholesale potato prices dropped significantly compared to last year.
Both categories recorded a sharp fall of ₹904.39 per quintal.
Meerut APMC also saw a steep decline, where the price of desi potatoes dropped from ₹2,221.41 in 2024 to ₹1,296.25 per quintal in 2025, marking a ₹925.16 per quintal reduction due to increased supply and low demand.
Kanpur (Grain) APMC, desi potato prices fell from ₹1,933.22 in 2024 to ₹1,239.11 per quintal in 2025, registering a decline of ₹694.11 per quintal.
Dadri APMC observed the largest price drop, where rates fell from ₹2,189.53 in 2024 to ₹1,167.65 per quintal in 2025—a massive ₹1,021.88 per quintal decrease.
Prayagraj APMC, the widely traded Chandramukhi variety witnessed a major price correction.
Its rate dropped from ₹2,192.03 in 2024 to ₹1,328.81 per quintal in 2025, indicating a fall of ₹863.22 per quintal, causing losses to farmers.
Sirsa APMC: Lowest Decline Recorded:
Sirsa APMC saw a relatively smaller reduction compared to other markets.
The price of desi potatoes fell from ₹1,937.33 in 2024 to ₹1,300.00 per quintal in 2025, a decrease of ₹637.33 per quintal.
Overall Scenario: Wholesale potato prices across all major North Indian markets remained significantly lower in November 2025 than the previous year. Full cold storages, favourable weather, and increased production kept the market under price pressure. While the fall in prices poses challenges for farmers, consumers are currently benefiting from cheaper potatoes.
