August 9, 2025 – Potato prices showed sharp fluctuations across major mandis in India today. According to the latest mandi price updates, in some markets of Bihar, the Jyoti variety fetched up to ₹2200 per quintal, while in Gujarat’s Gondal mandi, the minimum price dropped to just ₹200.

This wide gap in prices is driven by quality differences, market demand, and supply conditions. Farmers with high-quality potatoes can earn the best returns today by selling in Bihar’s Ara mandi or in Gujarat’s Navsari, Padra, and Wadhwan mandis. On the other hand, average or low-quality produce is selling at much lower rates in several areas, so farmers should plan their sales carefully.

Potato Prices in Bihar:

Mandi Variety Min Price (₹/Quintal) Max Price (₹/Quintal)
Ara Jyoti ₹ 2,000 ₹ 2,200
Forbesganj Jyoti ₹ 1,200 ₹ 1,600
Natwar Jyoti ₹ 1,200 ₹ 1,400

Highlight: Ara mandi recorded the highest price in Bihar at ₹2200 per quintal.

Potato Prices in Gujarat:

Mandi Variety Min Price Max Price
Ahmedabad Chips ₹ 800 ₹ 2,000

Porbandar Red Nainital ₹ 1,250 ₹ 1,750
Rajkot Desi ₹ 750 ₹ 1,750
Surat Other ₹ 600 ₹ 1,800
Wadhwan Potato ₹ 1,500 ₹ 2,000

Highlight: In Gujarat, Ahmedabad, Navsari, Padra, and Wadhwan recorded top prices of ₹2000, while Gondal saw the lowest rate at just ₹200.

Key Market Differences:

  • Bihar: Even the minimum price remained relatively high (₹1200+), indicating steady quality and demand.
  • Gujarat: A large price spread (₹200 to ₹2000) reflects oversupply and huge variation in quality.

Market Analysis:

  • Bihar: The Jyoti variety has strong demand, especially in Ara and Forbesganj.
  • Gujarat: Red Nainital and chips-quality potatoes fetched up to ₹2000, but desi and other varieties were significantly cheaper in many markets.
  • Overall: If you have high-quality potatoes, selling in Ara (Bihar) or Navsari, Padra, Wadhwan (Gujarat) could bring maximum profits.
