Great news for farmers! The central government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) 2025-26, aiming to bring revolutionary changes to the agriculture sector.
This scheme, farmers can now avail up to 90% government subsidy on modern irrigation systems such as drip and sprinkler irrigation. The main advantage is that farmers can produce more crops with less water, increase productivity, and reduce cultivation costs.
The government’s goal is to make every field follow the principle of “More Crop Per Drop”, which is why micro irrigation techniques are being given special emphasis under PMKSY 2025-26.
The scheme has two major components:
Micro Irrigation Methods:
Cludes drip irrigation, mini/micro sprinklers, and portable sprinklers.
Other Interventions:
Covers construction of private tube wells, wells, and farm ponds to improve water availability.
Small & marginal farmers: Up to 80% subsidy on drip irrigation.
Other farmers: Up to 70% subsidy.
FRA (Forest Rights Act) landholders: Up to 90% subsidy.
For portable sprinklers:
Marginal farmers get 55% subsidy.
Other farmers get 45% subsidy.
Farmers applying for drip irrigation are also eligible for 50% subsidy on additional water-related works, such as well or pond construction.
Land Ownership Certificate (LPC) for the past two years (offline/online).
Lease deeds over 7 years for leased land, executed on ₹1,000 stamp paper and verified by the concerned authority.
Subsidy is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Farmers must sign the Estimate and Design prepared by the implementing company.
Optional components such as hydro cyclone filters, fertilizer tanks, and winder machines should be selected carefully by the farmer.
Payment and Completion:
Within 30 days of receiving the work order, farmers must deposit their share online via the MIS portal under “Bihar Horticulture Development Society, PMKSY Farmer Share.” Failure to do so will result in automatic cancellation of the order.
After completion, the subsidy is released through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), either in cash or in-kind.
This scheme ensures that farmers can modernize irrigation systems at minimal cost, increase crop yield, and contribute to sustainable water management.
