Consumers in the Malwa and Nimar regions of Madhya Pradesh are showing remarkable enthusiasm for solar energy. In the past 14 months, more than 15,000 electricity consumers have installed rooftop solar net meters on their homes, embracing clean energy solutions. Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, subsidies exceeding ₹90 crore have already been directly transferred via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) into the bank accounts of over 12,000 beneficiaries.
According to Mr. Anoop Kumar Singh, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company, the scheme is being implemented effectively across the Malwa and Nimar regions. Indore city leads the way, with solar panels installed at over 16,000 locations. Overall, more than 30,500 consumers in the company's distribution area have adopted solar energy so far.
PM Surya Ghar scheme, a subsidy of ₹30,000 each is provided for the first and second kilowatt, and ₹18,000 for the third kilowatt — totaling up to ₹78,000 for systems of up to 3 kW capacity. While consumers can install systems exceeding 3 kW, the subsidy remains capped at ₹78,000.
Mr. Singh added that the approval of applications is being done swiftly under the scheme, encouraging more consumers to install rooftop solar panels and generate their own electricity. This not only helps reduce dependence on coal-based energy but also contributes significantly to environmental protection.
