Between July 23 and July 29, 2025, onion prices have once again seen a noticeable rise across major mandis in Uttar Pradesh. During this period, mandi rates increased by anywhere from ₹20 to ₹350 per quintal, bringing much-needed relief for farmers and signaling shifting market trends for traders.
According to market experts, recent rainfall and transportation disruptions in some areas have caused a dip in onion arrivals, while upcoming festivals like Raksha Bandhan and Teej have led to a spike in demand. This imbalance between supply and demand is pushing prices upward.
For farmers and traders involved in the onion trade, this is a crucial time to understand the market trend and make informed decisions.

What Does This Trend Indicate?
Until recently, onion prices across Uttar Pradesh’s mandis had remained relatively stable. However, the combination of increased festival-driven demand and reduced arrivals due to weather and transport issues has created upward pressure on prices.
Experts explain that most of the onions currently arriving in mandis are from cold storage. The Rabi season harvest was already completed in March–April, and now, with the festive season approaching, demand is naturally picking up. Meanwhile, rains are disrupting the movement of stored onions to the markets, limiting supply.
