Weather conditions are set to change once again across several parts of the country. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds is likely in a few states on January 28, including Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar. In addition, hailstorm activity is also expected at isolated places in Sikkim.
The IMD has also warned of dense fog conditions over several parts of North India in the coming days. Between January 28 and 30, dense fog is likely during morning and night hours in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, which may significantly reduce visibility.
Foggy conditions are expected to be more prominent over Uttarakhand on January 29 and 30. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar may witness dense fog at isolated locations on January 28 and 29. The weather department has advised people to remain cautious, especially while travelling.
Cold Wave-Like Conditions Likely in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh
As per the IMD forecast, cold wave conditions may occur at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh between January 29 and 31. Similar cold wave-like conditions are also likely in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from January 28 to 31, indicating a further drop in temperatures and increased chill.
Bihar to Receive Rain With Thunder and Gusty Winds on Jan 28
Bihar is also expected to witness light to moderate rainfall at a few places on January 28, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. At the same time, isolated hailstorm activity may occur in parts of Sikkim on the same day.
Fresh Western Disturbance May Bring Rain and Snowfall
The IMD has indicated that a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from the night of January 30, 2026. Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall is expected over the Western Himalayan region and the adjoining plains of Northwest India on February 1 and 2. During this period, the region may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Minimum Temperatures Likely to Fall Over Central India
In Central India, minimum temperatures may gradually fall by 2–4°C over the next two days. No significant change is expected during the next 24 hours, but temperatures may rise again by 2–4°C over the following four days.
Temperature Changes Expected in North Maharashtra and Gujarat
In North Maharashtra, minimum temperatures may drop by 2–3°C over the next two days, followed by a rise of 2–3°C over the subsequent three days, with no major change thereafter.
In Gujarat, a fall of 3–5°C in minimum temperatures is likely over the next 24 hours. After that, temperatures may rise by 2–4°C over the next three days, and remain largely stable later.
