Several northern states continue to reel under the impact of relentless rainfall over the past four days, disrupting normal life and causing waterlogging in low-lying areas. While the downpour has brought welcome relief from the sweltering heat and humidity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the intensity of rainfall will gradually decrease after August 7, followed by a rise in temperatures.

Red Alert in Uttarakhand, Yellow Alert in Himachal:

The IMD has issued a red alert for multiple districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Nainital, and Bageshwar, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. In view of the weather threat, schools in at least nine districts have been ordered shut as a precautionary measure.
In Himachal Pradesh, deteriorating weather conditions have prompted the IMD to issue a yellow alert from August 7 to 10 for various parts of the state. A cloudburst was also reported near Shimla's Ramnagar area, though no casualties or damage were reported.

Intermittent Showers to Continue in Some States:

Forecasts suggest that heavy rainfall will continue in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh till August 12. Punjab is expected to witness strong showers on August 7 and 12, while Haryana may receive heavy rain on August 11 and 12.

Uttar Pradesh, rainfall is likely to persist, especially in western districts like Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, and Shahjahanpur, where alerts have been issued for August 8, 11, and 12. Light showers are expected in parts of eastern UP, with heavier spells likely on August 12. Thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are also predicted in western UP on August 7.

Delhi Weather Remains Dry: Delhi, meanwhile, remains mostly dry. On Wednesday, the capital recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8°C and a minimum of 26.1°C both slightly below normal. The IMD expects similar temperatures on Thursday, with a possibility of very light rain returning next week in the Delhi-NCR region.
