Scientists at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar, have developed two new mustard varieties – RH 1424 and RH 1706. These varieties not only promise higher yields but also offer improved oil quality. Farmers across Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, northern Rajasthan, and Jammu will directly benefit from these innovations.
Key Features of the New Varieties:
Direct Benefits for Farmers
So far, HAU has developed 21 mustard varieties, with Haryana leading the country in mustard productivity for years. This achievement highlights the continuous efforts of scientists and the adoption of advanced practices by farmers.
Experts’ Views:
HAU Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.R. Kamboj said these new varieties will be a “milestone for mustard-growing states.”
Director of Research, Dr. Jeet Ram Sharma, added that the varieties not only yield more but also mature faster and provide superior quality oil.
The Road Ahead:
With these new varieties, farmers can expect higher income, while the nation moves closer to self-reliance in edible oil production. Consumers will also gain access to healthier mustard oil. If adopted widely, these varieties could make mustard farming even more profitable in the coming years.
