Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Cabinet has approved a landmark decision by launching the Chief Minister Health Scheme, the first of its kind in the country. Through this initiative, every resident of Punjab will be entitled to cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh per year.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held at the Chief Minister’s official residence. According to a government spokesperson, the scheme will be implemented across the state starting October 2.
This scheme, every family in Punjab will now be eligible for free treatment worth ₹10 lakh annually — a significant increase from the earlier limit of ₹5 lakh. This expansion is expected to directly benefit over 30 million residents of the state.
Currently, more than 550 private hospitals are already enrolled in the scheme, with plans to increase the number to over 1,000 in the coming months. Additionally, all government hospitals across Punjab will offer these cashless services.
One of the most remarkable features of the scheme is that it ensures universal coverage, removing any discrimination based on income or social class. Whether a person is a government employee, pensioner, or general citizen, all residents will receive equal access to healthcare services.
Health Cards Available Through Seva Kendras:
Beneficiaries can obtain their health cards from Seva Kendras or Common Service Centers (CSCs). Online registration will also be available using either Aadhaar or Voter ID cards.
A Step Inspired by the Spirit of ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’:
Driven by the philosophy of Sarbat Da Bhala (Welfare of All), the Punjab government has introduced this inclusive health initiative that reflects a sensitive and people-first administrative vision. The scheme is not just about healthcare—it symbolizes the government’s commitment to the overall well-being of every citizen.
With this move, Punjab becomes the first state in the country to provide free healthcare, education, electricity, and bus travel to all its citizens. The Chief Minister Health Scheme is poised to become a model for other states in India to emulate.
