This year, the monsoon is expected to reach Mumbai before its usual date of June 11. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the monsoon will arrive in Kerala around May 27, after which it will move into Maharashtra in the first week of June.
On Sunday, Mumbai’s Santacruz weather station recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2°C and a minimum of 26.6°C. For the next 48 hours, the temperature is expected to range between 33°C and 27°C, with cloudy skies and chances of thunderstorms and rain.
The IMD has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Konkan and central Maharashtra between May 19 and 25. This includes Mumbai and nearby areas. There is a risk of waterlogging, falling trees, and traffic disruptions. Residents have been advised to check weather and traffic updates before heading out.
Weather to Change in North India
Several northern states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh are currently experiencing intense heat. Delhi may see temperatures between 40°C and 41°C. However, light rain and strong winds are expected around May 21 and 22.
Rain and Wind Expected in UP and Neighboring States
Weather conditions are likely to change in the next 24 hours in states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab. Between May 19 and 23, many areas in UP may experience strong winds, lightning, and scattered rain. The ongoing easterly winds in the Terai region are expected to influence both eastern and western parts of the state.
Some districts — including Gorakhpur, Basti, Lakhimpur Kheri, Meerut, Mathura, Agra, Bareilly, and surrounding areas — may get some relief from the ongoing heat during this period.
