India’s leading cooperative organization, IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative), is set to make a significant global mark by establishing its first overseas nano fertilizer plant in Brazil. This move signifies a major leap for Indian nano technology in agriculture on the international stage.
The plant will be set up in Curitiba, located in the Brazilian state of Paraná. The project is a joint venture between IFFCO’s subsidiary IFFCO Nanoventions and Brazilian company NANOFERT, with a 70:30 partnership ratio. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 4.5 million liters of nano fertilizer.
Nano fertilizers are more effective, economical, and eco-friendly compared to traditional urea and DAP fertilizers. Even with smaller doses, they offer higher crop productivity, help reduce input costs, and preserve soil health, making them a sustainable choice for modern agriculture.
IFFCO launched nano urea in 2021 and nano DAP in 2023. Since then, the organization has exported over 500,000 bottles of nano fertilizers to more than 50 countries, including the USA, Brazil, Nepal, Slovenia, and Mauritius.
Why Is Demand Growing in Brazil?
Brazil, being an agriculture-driven economy, extensively cultivates crops like maize, soybean, sugarcane, and coffee. Over the last two years, Brazilian farmers who used imported Indian nano fertilizers reported lower cultivation costs and higher yields. According to NANOFERT chairman Ritesh Sharma, nano fertilizers boosted yields by 10% in maize and soybean, and over 7% in sugarcane.
One Bottle = 45 kg of Urea: IFFCO’s 500 ml bottle of nano urea, priced at approximately ₹240, is as effective as a 45 kg bag of conventional urea. The nano DAP bottle is priced around ₹600. These fertilizers not only meet the nutritional needs of crops but also reduce wastage and limit damage to the soil.
Nano Zinc and Copper Coming Soon: IFFCO is also preparing to launch nano zinc and nano copper liquid nutrients. So far, the organization has invested over ₹4,200 crore in nano research and production, while actively promoting its use across India through awareness campaigns.
