The monsoon has become more active across the country, with widespread rainfall expected to continue over the next week. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rain is likely between August 29 and September 3 across large parts of East, Central, West, and North India. States including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Northeastern region have been placed under a heavy rainfall alert.
Several parts of East and Central India are likely to witness continuous rainfall throughout the week. Chhattisgarh and eastern Madhya Pradesh may receive heavy showers over the next seven days. Vidarbha, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim are expected to see significant rainfall on August 29–30. Heavy rainfall is also predicted in western Madhya Pradesh (August 29–September 1) and Bihar (August 30–September 1). Showers are likely in Jharkhand on August 30, while Odisha could experience heavy rain between August 31 and September 3.
Heavy rainfall is also forecast for the Ghats, Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra over the next seven days. On August 29, extremely heavy rain is possible in ghat areas. During this period, most other regions in Maharashtra are expected to see light to moderate showers.
