India’s weather has taken a dramatic turn once again. According to the latest Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) report, the past 24 hours have seen heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions, from South India to Central and Eastern India. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon retreat has accelerated, signaling that the rainy season is ending in many parts of North and West India.
The IMD has issued warnings of strong winds, thunderstorms, and extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Eastern and Central India, including Odisha. Farmers, fishermen, and the general public are advised to remain alert to minimize damage to crops and property.
Here’s a detailed look at where it rained heavily, which regions have seen monsoon withdrawal, and the upcoming weather forecast.
Heavy Rainfall in the Past 24 Hours:
- Tamil Nadu & Kerala: Many areas recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall (7–20 cm).
- Andaman Islands, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Vidarbha: Some locations received heavy rainfall (7–11 cm).

Monsoon Withdrawal Accelerates:
According to IMD, the monsoon withdrawal is now proceeding rapidly. By 26th September 2025, the monsoon has withdrawn from:
- Parts of Gujarat
- Entire Rajasthan
- Many areas in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh
- The entire Western Himalayan region (Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand)
Line of Withdrawal: 20°N/69°E → Veraval → Bharuch → Ujjain → Jhansi → Shahjahanpur → 30°N/81°E

Forecast for Eastern & Central India:
- 26 September: Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Vidarbha, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- 27 September: Rain in Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Eastern & Western Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim; very heavy rainfall in Odisha.
- 30 September – 2 October: Rain expected in Chhattisgarh, Eastern & Western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- 2 October: Rain likely in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
- 26 September: IMD has issued extremely heavy rainfall warning for Odisha.
Thunderstorm & Strong Wind Alerts:
- Next 5 days: Thunderstorms with strong winds (30–50 km/h) expected in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.
- 26–28 September: Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Advisory for Farmers and the Public:
- Exercise caution in areas experiencing heavy rainfall due to flooding and landslide risks.
- Fishermen should avoid venturing into the sea, especially in the Andaman & Nicobar region and coastal Odisha/Bengal.
- Stay away from weak structures, electric poles, and trees during strong winds.
- Farmers should ensure adequate drainage in fields to protect crops from waterlogging.
