Weather conditions are set to change across several parts of the country in the coming days. Cold and dense fog are expected to intensify over North India, including Delhi-NCR, while rainfall and snowfall activity is likely to increase in the hilly regions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperature fluctuations will continue, and alerts have been issued for cold wave conditions and dense fog in multiple areas.
In Delhi-NCR, the impact of cold has remained strong due to recent rainfall and persistent cloud cover. However, a slight improvement in air quality has been observed during this period. On January 26, the minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to range between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius. The drop in temperature is likely to further intensify the cold conditions, especially during early mornings and late nights.
Temperature Changes Across Several States
The IMD has forecast a fall of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures over Northwest India during the next 24 hours. In Maharashtra, minimum temperatures may decline by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours. This will be followed by a gradual rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the subsequent three days, with no significant change thereafter. In Gujarat, minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours. A gradual increase of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius is expected during the following three days, after which temperatures are likely to remain stable.
Snowfall and Rainfall Expected in Hilly Regions
According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 24 and 25. A fresh western disturbance is expected to become active on January 27, bringing widespread rainfall and snowfall across these regions.
Rain and snowfall activity may continue at isolated locations on January 28 as well. Heavy rainfall or snowfall is also likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on January 27.
Dense Fog and Cold Wave Alert in North India
The weather department has warned of dense to very dense fog during morning and night hours in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between January 24 and 26. Dense fog conditions are also likely in parts of Himachal Pradesh during the same period.
