The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India, organized a grand event to mark World Bee Day 2025. This year’s theme, “Bee Inspired by Nature, Nourishing Every Life,” aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming the “White Revolution into a Sweet Revolution.”

The event witnessed the participation of beneficiaries, trainees, scientists, students, and experts from across the country, including Maharashtra. More than just a platform for technical discourse, the program served as a model of innovation, inspiration, and self-reliance for rural India.

Honey Mission Gives New Wings to Rural Livelihoods:

In his address, KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar described bees as the backbone of our ecosystem. Beyond producing honey, bees play a vital role in pollination, which boosts agricultural output and supports environmental sustainability. He emphasized that the Honey Mission, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, has become a strong pillar of rural livelihood. He added that the “Sweet Revolution” is not only a symbol of economic prosperity but also of health and wellness. The efforts by KVIC in this direction are a significant step towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

Record Production and Increase in Farmers’ Income:

Shri Manoj Kumar shared that 2,29,409 bee boxes and bee colonies have been distributed across the country so far. This has resulted in the production of approximately 20,000 metric tons of honey, generating an income of around ₹325 crores for beekeepers. Additionally, in the fiscal year 2024–25, India exported honey worth ₹25 crores, marking a significant milestone in international trade.

Comprehensive Livelihood Model for Rural Youth, Women, and Farmers:

KVIC CEO Ms. Roopa Rashmi highlighted that the Honey Mission is not just a scheme, but a comprehensive livelihood model that is benefitting thousands of rural youth, women, and farmers. She noted that the honey processing plants, training centers, and marketing networks established by KVIC are steadily empowering beekeepers and leading them towards self-reliance.

Bees Crucial for 75% of Crop Pollination: Scientists at the event informed that bees are responsible for pollinating nearly 75% of all food crops. Without them, 30% of food crops and 90% of wild plant species could be at risk. As part of the celebration, children presented plays, poems, and essays, which became major highlights of the event. Beneficiaries from across the country also shared their success stories via digital platforms, showcasing the wide-reaching impact of the Honey Mission.
