In a major move to support farmers hit by floods and heavy rainfall, the Maharashtra government has approved an immediate financial relief package of ₹2,540.90 crore. The decision, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to provide timely assistance to farmers affected by natural calamities between June and September 2025.

Farmers to Receive ₹10,000 Per Hectare for Farm Inputs:

State Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Makarand Jadhav Patil formally announced the decision, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting farmers in distress. Under the newly issued Government Resolution (GR), a special assistance package worth ₹1,765.22 crore has been approved to help farmers purchase seeds, fertilizers, and other essential agricultural inputs.
Each affected farmer will receive ₹10,000 per hectare as financial assistance, with a maximum limit of three hectares per farmer, ensuring maximum benefits reach small and medium-scale farmers.

Kharif Crop Loss, New Hope for Rabi Season:

The relief package primarily targets farmers whose Kharif crops were destroyed during the 2025 monsoon floods. According to government reports, several districts reported severe crop damage, resulting in heavy financial losses.

Minister Patil added that the plan was approved based on proposals received from the Pune, Nashik, and Amravati divisions. The assistance will enable farmers to restart cultivation for the upcoming Rabi season and restore their livelihoods.

Decision on Loan Waiver Deferred to June 2026:

While the relief package offers immediate support, the state government has postponed its decision on a loan waiver. Chief Minister Fadnavis said the government aims for a long-term and sustainable solution. To that end, a high-level committee headed by Chief Economic Advisor Pravin Pardeshi has been formed to recommend short-term and long-term measures for debt relief and income enhancement. The final decision is expected by June 30, 2026.

Opposition Criticizes Delay, Demands Immediate Loan Waiver:

Opposition parties have strongly criticized the government’s approach. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray accused the administration of making tall announcements without ensuring real relief reaches the farmers. He demanded the immediate implementation of a loan waiver so that farmers can prepare for the Rabi season with renewed hope.

Government Defends Its Stand: “Committed to Transparency and Farmer Welfare”:

Response, the Fadnavis government reaffirmed its commitment to farmers, stating that the distribution of relief funds will be completely transparent. Officials clarified that the financial assistance will be directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts to avoid delays or discrepancies.

Relief for Millions of Farmers: This move is expected to bring much-needed relief to millions of flood-affected farmers across Maharashtra. The ₹1,765 crore package will help them resume cultivation, while the forthcoming decision on loan waivers remains a crucial topic of political and agricultural discourse. All eyes are now on June 2026, as farmers await whether the government will fulfill their expectations for a debt-free and secure agricultural future.
