Uttar Pradesh government has further strengthened the Farm Pond Scheme to enhance irrigation facilities and promote rainwater harvesting for farmers. Under this scheme, farmers will now be able to generate additional income not only through irrigation support but also by engaging in fish farming, water chestnut (singhara), makhana (fox nuts), and pearl cultivation.
For the financial year 2025–26, the online application process has officially begun. Farmers will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, making early application crucial to avail the benefits. According to Dr. Pankaj Tripathi, Director of Agriculture, Uttar Pradesh, the scheme will play a key role in increasing farmers’ income, addressing water scarcity, and reducing irrigation costs. He noted that many districts in the state suffer annual losses due to drought and untimely rainfall, and initiatives like the Farm Pond Scheme are proving highly beneficial in mitigating these challenges.
As per the Agriculture Department, the estimated cost of constructing a farm pond is ₹1,05,000. Out of this, the government will provide ₹52,500 as a subsidy, while the remaining amount will be borne by the farmer. At the time of application, farmers are required to deposit ₹1,000 as token money online.
Farmers can apply through the official portal: https://agridarshan.up.gov.in. Dr. Tripathi further informed that the subsidy amount will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts in two installments through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
The scheme is applicable only to farmers who have already installed a micro-irrigation system (drip or sprinkler) on their fields or have submitted a tripartite agreement along with the application. After completion of pond construction, eligible farmers will receive a 50 percent subsidy.
Farmers can also contact their respective district agriculture offices for detailed information. From application to subsidy disbursement, the entire process has been made transparent and fully online.
According to Dr. Pankaj Tripathi, the primary objective of the Farm Pond Scheme is to promote water conservation, reduce irrigation expenses, and enhance farmers’ income. The initiative encourages farmers to move beyond traditional practices and adopt smart, sustainable, and climate-resilient farming methods.
