Farmers across the district are being encouraged to adopt balanced and judicious use of chemical fertilizers for better crop productivity. According to the Deputy Director of Agriculture, alternative fertilizers like NPK (12:32:16, 20:20:0:13, 10:26:26) and Single Super Phosphate (SSP) are proving to be more effective and beneficial than the conventional DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate).
NPK fertilizers supply essential nutrients—Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium—that are vital for healthy plant growth. Potassium regulates the opening and closing of plant stomata, improving water and nutrient absorption. These results in better seed quality, increased yield, and enhanced disease resistance.
SSP contains 16% Phosphorus, 12.5% Sulphur, and Calcium. Sulphur helps in the production of oils and proteins in plants, while calcium helps maintain the pH balance of the soil and improves soil fertility. A combination of 20 kg of urea with two bags of SSP is considered a cost-effective solution for higher yields.
The Deputy Director also confirmed that the district has sufficient stocks of all major fertilizers. The available quantities include:
Farmers are encouraged to make the most of these alternative fertilizers and follow scientific farming methods to achieve higher productivity and greater profitability.
