Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are set to witness another spell of heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy showers in several districts of both states until September 22.
The monsoon season in Bihar is in its final phase, but rainfall has so far remained well below the normal average. According to IMD, light to heavy showers are expected across the state between September 19 and 22, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in many districts.
The weather office has issued yellow alerts for several districts and orange alerts for two districts. In North Bihar, districts such as Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Purnea, and Katihar are likely to receive intense rainfall. Similarly, heavy showers are also expected in Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Gopalganj, Siwan, Patna, Rohtas, and Aurangabad in South and West Bihar.
Uttar Pradesh, rainfall activity is expected to pick up once again from Wednesday. The IMD has predicted heavy downpours in many districts, with eastern UP likely to witness more intense rainfall compared to western parts, where moderate to heavy showers are expected.
Lucknow, moderate rainfall is expected during the day on Wednesday, followed by heavy rain at night, which may continue into Thursday. Districts such as Gonda, Barabanki, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Banda, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Ballia, Mau, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Balrampur, Bahraich, Sitapur, Kanpur, Unnao, Hardoi, and Ambedkarnagar have also been placed under heavy rainfall alerts.
Rainfall Likely to Ease After September 19: According to the IMD, rainfall intensity is expected to gradually decline after September 19. However, until then, most parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are likely to remain drenched under continuous spells of monsoon showers.
