Crop Name: Tomato

Disease Name : Bacterial spot

  • Bacterial spot disease is caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria.
  • It severely affects the leaves, stems, and fruits of tomato plants.
  • Under favorable conditions, the disease spreads rapidly.
  • Small brown spots with yellow halos appear on infected leaves.
  • Older leaves show the infection first.
  • Symptoms also appear on green fruits.
  • Initially, small water-soaked spots appear, which later enlarge.
  • Use disease-free and certified seeds.
  • For seed treatment, soak seeds in hot water (50°C) for 30 minutes.
  • Ensure proper field drainage and avoid continuous moisture on the leaves.
  • Select disease-tolerant varieties.
