- Red rot is the most destructive disease of sugarcane caused by the fungus Colletotrichum falcatum.
- It primarily attacks the cane stalk.
- The fungus enters the stalk and destroys the internal tissues.
- Red-colored rotting inside the cane
- White patches or streaks near the nodes
- Leaves turn yellow and dry
- Stalk becomes weak and breaks easily
- Immediately remove and destroy infected plants
- Use resistant and healthy sugarcane varieties
- Follow a crop rotation of 2–3 years
- Use only certified and disease-free seed cane; avoid rotten or weak setts
