- Bakanae is a seed-borne as well as soil-borne disease of rice.
- It is caused by the fungus Fusarium moniliforme (Fusarium fujikuroi).
- The disease is more prevalent in warm and humid weather conditions.
- Infected plants become abnormally tall and slender.
- Leaves turn yellow and start drying.
- Root development in infected plants remains weak.
- Use certified and disease-free seeds.
- Treat seeds properly before nursery sowing.
