Disease Name : Sheath blight



  • Sheath blight is one of the major fungal diseases of rice.
  • It is caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani.
  • The disease primarily affects the leaf sheath and the basal part of the stem.
  • Its incidence increases under conditions of high temperature and high humidity.
  • Water-soaked, light-green lesions appear on the leaf sheaths near the base.
  • Gradually, these lesions turn into oval or irregular brown spots.
  • The leaves start yellowing and drying prematurely.
  • Use disease-free seeds.
  • Avoid excessive application of nitrogen fertilizers; apply balanced fertilizers.
  • Prevent continuous water stagnation in the field; ensure proper water management.
  • Practice crop rotation and destroy infected crop residues.
